How It Works
How Tip Calculation Works
The tip is calculated by multiplying the bill amount by the tip percentage divided by 100. The total is the bill plus the tip. When splitting among multiple people, both the tip and total are divided by the number of people.
Standard Tipping Guidelines
In the United States, 15-20% is customary for sit-down restaurants. 10% is common for counter service. Many countries have different tipping norms; this calculator lets you enter any percentage to fit your local customs.
