How It Works

What Is VAT?

Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax applied to goods and services at each stage of the supply chain. The end consumer bears the full cost. VAT rates vary by country; the Netherlands uses 21% (standard), 9% (reduced), and 0% rates.

Adding vs. Removing VAT

To add VAT: gross = net * (1 + rate/100). To remove (extract) VAT from a gross price: net = gross / (1 + rate/100). This calculator handles both directions automatically.
